Signing up with the Boston Online Tutoring Project is easy

The first step is to make sure you are interested and qualify to participate in the program. All you need to is read the following and click on a button at the end of the screen.

The Boston Public Library, in partnership with an Internet-based education company, Real Time Learning, offers The Boston Online Tutoring Project.

The Project provides much needed tutorial assistance in math to middle school students in Boston. Each tutor is matched with a student. Twice a week, you (the tutor) sit down at a computer that is connected to the Internet. At the same time, your student logs into the Internet from a computer at a Boston Public Library. You meet in a Virtual Classroom that has a whiteboard, web browser and voice capability. Anything you type or draw on your screen the student sees - and visa versa. You can talk to your student using a microphone that we will provide.

Participating is easy, educational and rewarding.
  • Easy: It takes just two hours a week. There is no need to leave home, school or work and no travel time.
  • Educational: You will learn more about the Internet and work with "cutting edge" technology.
  • Rewarding: You will be a mentor, boost a student's confidence and build that student's math skills.
