Portfolio | Illustration

Illustration is an integral part of digital design. Being able to translate ideas into visual form is important. It is especially critical to user interface design where communicating an idea visually is key. To view icons, toolbar images, diagrams, and other illustrations use the navigation below.

In 1996, Micrografx Flowcharter 7 was released. These interface images were designed and created for this application as well as sample flow charts to be shipped with the product showing visual capabilities. Included are images for three internal wizards. Each wizard panel has an image which reflects the function of the panel. There were also tool bar images and other icons. At the right is the back of the box the product shipped in. Several of the created images appear there. Click the red arrows to see larger versions of the images and other images that were associated with each particular wizard. Click in the center of the box to see a larger version of the box itself. Toolbar Icons | Data Import Wizard images which do not appear on the back of the box. All Images had to be designed and created with the 16 color Windows palette.

A series of sample test questions were created for some of Real Time Learning's institutional sites. Many of the questions included diagrams drawn in illustrator. To view more of the sample questions and diagrams, click here.

Foundry 360 is a conceptual design company with experience designing for a diverse set of technology companies. Among the expertise of F360 is visual interface. These icons were created for a client of Foundry 360, Legato, Inc., and used in a software application. F360 designed the icons. They were created and digitized from drawings or descriptions and ideas. In the case of the latter, this shows how illustration can make an idea come to life.

This is a digital illustration of La Mer Bed and Breakfast in Ventura, California. The drawing was based on a photo I took for the web site I designed and created. Click on the image to see it at a larger size. The web site may be viewed by going to the "web" section of this portfolio.

These flower illustrations were created to give the web site for a Victorian style guest house a romantic feel. They were created from photographs I took in the Golden Gate Park and Rose Garden in San Francisco. (Okay, one is my mom's zymbidium) Creating them was like planting a garden. And they started to take on a life of their own. Click each of the flower to see more illustrations.

Some of these little drawings pictured to the right are based on native American symbolism. I used them around this web site as they embody design, activity, communication, and creativeness. I was contracted by MentorGirls.org to create a host of other illustrations, some of which are used on that web site. These graphite pencil illustrations were submitted as part of a portfolio for admittance to the Masters of Fine Art program in computer arts at the Academy of Art College. The concentration was in 3D modeling and computer animation, however, being able to show ability in the traditional arts was important for admittance.
