From our origins in 1975 as a Himalayan trekking company we have evolved into the oldest and most respected adventure travel company in Australia (our home country). We set the industry standards, and, by owning most of our operational bases we can provide high quality trips at competitive prices.

When you consider the number of our team who have climbed Everest or who are recognized as experts in their particular field then you realize the pivotal role that World Expeditions has played in the development of adventure travel. This translates into more innovative itineraries whether it be a challenging expedition to climb a 6000 meter peak in Argentina, cycling through Vietnam or trekking to appreciate the wildflowers in the Indian Himalaya.

Environmental & cultural concern

If adventure travel companies were rated in terms of commitment to the environment we would surely rate near the top! Long before the term 'eco tourism' was popularized we had endeavored to make a minimal impact on the environments and cultures in which we operate. We have always subscribed to the view that companies should be judged on what they do and not on what they claim. For this reason we have provided continual support to, among others, The Fred Hollows Foundation (an organization that is helping to eliminate cataract blindness in many developing countries), and to the Himalayan Trust (founded by Sir Edmund Hillary). We take great care of our staff, right through to the porters. We are a founding member of the International Porter Protection Group (IPPG, an organization that seeks to protect the lives and welfare of trekking porters). Closer to our home base, we are the only commercial company officially endorsed by The Wilderness Society (Australia) for our responsible approach to tourism in protected areas.
