Hip Hip…Horray!
World Expeditions Celebrates its 25th Birthday

Those of you who have been travelling with us since the company began in 1975 may recognize this over-enthusiastic trekker… our Gary Weare, better known around the traps as Guru Weare. Like so many of World Expeditions' researchers, leaders, mountaineers, photographers, climbers, cyclists and all-round adventurers, Gary has been involved with the company since the early days. The loyalty of leaders like Gary and Tim Macartney-Snape, Rebecca Stephens, Brigitte Muir, Sue Fear, Andrew Lock and many others has been integral to the longevity, creativity and overall success of WE. Their continued involvement is testament to the enduring spirit of the company and its philosophy, and their experience has contributed significantly to our second-to-none safety record.

For those of you less familiar with World Expeditions, we pioneered small-group trekking holidays in many of the remote parts of the world. With the help of a world-a class team, we continue to break new ground and explore the unexplored and strive to maintain the company's original goal, which was to provide high-quality, environmentally friendly and truly cutting-edge itineraries for our clients. And just as we appreciate the world's diverse environments, we appreciate the diversity of our clients - who also come from far corners of the world.

Today we offer more than 100 individually researched itineraries to the world's wilderness areas. With adventure holidays becoming increasingly mainstream, we strive to find new opportunities for adventure.

We have enjoyed long associations with a number of philanthropic and environmental organisations, including the Fred Hollows Foundation, the International Porter Protection Group, the Wilderness Society (Australia), Ed Hillary's Himalayan Trust, Nepal's Child Haven and many others. The combination of great leaders (from Everest summiteers to celebrity gardeners to Japanese-speaking academics), great friendships and operational control has ensured that the company vision is clearly focused.
